How to brew a great cup of tea

There are a few easy ways to brew tea using loose leaf.

Tea cup or teapot with strainer or basket:

  • Start by adding the leaves to the tea strainer/basket

  • Follow the instructions (below) for the specific type of tea you are brewing: white tea, green tea, oolong tea, black tea, herbal & rooibos tea

  • After correct steep time is reached, remove the strainer/basket of tea leaves and pour the tea into the desired tea cups, enjoy!

Teapot without strainer or basket:

  • Start by adding the leaves to the teapot

  • Follow the instructions (below) for the specific type of tea you are brewing: white tea, green tea, oolong tea, black tea, herbal & rooibos tea.

  • After correct steep time is reached, place a tea strainer/basket over tea cup and pour the tea from the teapot into the cups(s).

White tea

Add 1 heaping tsp of tea leaves (approx. 2-3grams) for each 6-7oz of water in teapot.

Heat fresh water to 80'C/175'F (not boiled) and pour over tea leaves. After steeping for 5 mins.

Pour tea over strainer to strain out the leaves.

 

Green tea

Add 1 heaping tsp of tea leaves (approx. 2-3grams) for each 6-7 oz of water in teapot.

Heat fresh water to 80'C/175'F (not boiled) and pour over tea. Steep for 3 mins.

 

Oolong tea

Add 1 heaping tsp of tea leaves (approx. 2-3grams) for each 6-7 oz of water in teapot.

Heat fresh water to 80'C/175'F (not boiled) and pour over tea. Steep for 3 mins.

Note: If brewing highly oxidized Oolong tea (called Long Oolong), follow brewing instructions for black tea.

 

Black tea

Add 1 heaping tsp of tea leaves (approx. 2-3grams) for each 6-7 oz of water in teapot.

Pour freshly boiled water over tea. Steep for 4-5 mins.

 

For Pu’erh tea

Add 1 heaping tsp of tea leaves (approx. 2-3grams) for each 6-7 oz of water in teapot.

Pour freshly boiled water over tea. Steep for 3-5 mins.

  

Herbal / Rooibos tea

Add 1 heaping tsp of tea leaves (approx. 2-3grams) for each 6-7 oz of water in teapot.

Pour freshly boiled water over tea. Steep for 5-7 mins.
